New 2022 Toyota GR Supra Performances, Pricing – Although Toyota GR Supra has been on the road for about a year, it’s been getting important changes. For 2022, the sports car received a new entry-level four-cylinder engine, while the turbocharged inline-six engines got a power boost.

In addition, both models now get a more interesting 8.8-Inch Touchscreen as standard equipment and will soon be sold in the U.S. sounding like a lot, right? It is, and there are more changes coming. Jack Hollis, Toyota Group Vice President, and General Manager have told us that instead of throwing the big party celebrating Supra’s return, the car will spread the fun for several updates throughout the car’s lifecycle.

Although Supra A90 is only available with eight-speed transmissions, there is always the possibility that we will see a third pedal and a manual shifter in a sports car. Currently, the car has a group of engineers based in Munich, Germany, working for hand in arm with the BMW techs, so there is more news coming.

However, Hollis said that, although both teams worked together, Toyota engineers made a unique change and tuning the chassis to Supra. Fans always crave a shift of sticks, so we can only hope the Toyota is listening.

Toyota said it is not planning to replace or upgrade the system of Infotainment Supra, but we see that as an area where Supra could use the change. Currently, BMW Z4, which shares many of its parts with Supra, is equipped with the latest iDrive system BMW 7, which adds Android Auto wireless.

Supra, on the other hand, has a previous version of the same Infotainment system (iDrive 6), and although it is compatible with Apple CarPlay Wireless, it does not support Android Auto. Ben Haushalter, senior manager of product planning at Toyota, tells us that they always see the possibility to upgrade SUPRA, but the topic about having Android Auto hasn’t been raised by customers.

GAZOO Racing (GR), which is Toyota’s performance division, “will grow in the U.S.,” according to Hollis. That lifts our eyebrows. Despite our chance to get a 268-HP-inspired rally of GR Yaris which is slim for nothing, we can get a GR-brand of Corolla hatch or GR C-HR crossover. A Corolla hatchback with a 1.6-liter three-cylinder engine will make a lot of noise in the US and will be a great addition to the growing number of Hot hatches we have.

Sure, the six-cylinder SUPRA is obviously the most muscular Supra, but we can see a more Sportier version in the future that combines the four-cylinder SUPRA’s Weight-Loss Diet with a larger engine. The four-cylinder SUPRA 2.0 is about £200 slimmer than the SUPRA 3.0 thanks to its smaller wheels, no adaptive suspensions, two fewer cylinders less, and a smaller list of appliances.

Which makes us think-can Toyota build a lighter, six-cylinder-oriented model track? Hollis and Haushalter said that it didn’t happen right now, but with Supra getting a lot of attention lately and the fact that it’s been participating in NASCAR and Formula Drift, and there’s a Track-only Supra GT4 on the road, we wouldn’t be surprised if we saw it on the road.

All SUPRA models are equipped with eight-speed automatic transmission and are only offered with drive rear wheels. On the test track, our long-term 2020 Supra put some seriously impressive acceleration numbers: zero to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds and zero to 100 mph at 9.5. That puts it in a big league against the Chevy Camaro, the Porsche Cayman GTS, and the BMW m2 Competition.

In fact, it is even faster than the fourth-generation heralded Supra which is backed by an inline-six turbocharged sequential-with 320 horsepower. It’s a shame that manual transmissions aren’t available, but expectations aren’t completely gone; It was rumored that Supra would get a stick then in running production. Despite its performance potential, Supra’s suspension is forgiving enough to push every day.

The steering is accurate, both weighted and direct, which enhances the personality of the fun-to-drive. The price was a lower four-cylinder new model for 2022, but we had no chance to test it. With the Turbo-four under the hood, the SUPRA from Germany cousin-BMW Z4-managed with a fast 5.0-second zero-to-60-mph time.

Now with more horsepower, the fuel-economic rankings for the 2022 Supra 3.0 take a little hit but are still good, get 30 MPG Highway, 22 MPG City, and 25 MPG combined. It is more efficient than Camaro, Cayman GTS, and M2. On our 200-mile highway fuel-economy test route, the six-cylinder Supra exceeds highway rating by delivering 34 mpg. EPA hasn’t released an estimate for the new four-cylinder model and we haven’t tested that powertrain either.

The cockpit focuses on the driver strictly, and although the double-bubble roof provides additional headroom, the highest driver will feel pinched. In our test, we successfully adjusted four carry-on luggage behind the back seat. Most of Toyota’s interiors are divided by Z4, so those familiar with the BMW Switchgear and Infotainment controls will feel like home.

2022 Toyota GR Supra Specs

Speaking of Infotainment, the Supra Display Center is an 8.8-inch unit with a very lightweight reskinned version of the latest BMW iDrive interface. A digital gauge display – which is another Carry-over item of the BMW part bin – is standard in the range. Navigation capabilities and Apple CarPlay are both available, but Android Auto is not offered. A JBL 12-speaker audio system is optional, but we expect the standard 10-speaker audio system to be sufficient for most buyers considering the size of the SUPRA interior.

2022 Toyota GR Supra Safety Features

SUPRA has not been tested by the National Highways Traffic Safety Administration or insurance institution for highway safety. Toyota offers a number of driver assistance features as standard throughout Supra’s lineup, including automatic emergency braking. Additional features such as adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring can be added through the driver help package for $1195. Key safety features include:

  • Standard automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection.
  • Standard Lane-Departure warning.
  • Standard automatic high-light headlight.
