New 2022 Toyota Sienna Prime Review

New 2022 Toyota Sienna Prime Review – Toyota will probably introduce two new all-hybrid models into its lineup. The 2022 Toyota Venza revives a nameplate that has been missing since 2015 while the 2022 Toyota Sienna takes the existing model and updates it with a new look, updated interior, and for the first time, a hybrid drivetrain.

The two new vehicles are powered by four 2.5-liter cylinders mated to two electric motors although Venza and Sienna have much different power outputs.

The Toyota Sienna 2022 is all-new from the bottom up. Minivans not only rely on new platforms but also get standard gasoline-electric hybrid powertrains.

That’s not too surprising, though, considering the Japanese car manufacturer that brought us the Prius has been and continues to bet big on hybrids. In fact, he plans to offer an electrification version of all his vehicles in the United States by 2025, and make Venza’s mid-size crossover SUV revived just like the Sienna.

2022 Toyota Sienna Prime Powertrain

The Toyota Sienna 2022 is the first in its class to ditch the traditional gas engine replacing the hybrid powertrain exclusively. That arrangement meant the minivan produced 243 horsepower (181 kilowatts) and reached up to 33 miles per gallon (estimated by Toyota) in the right specifications. But some have questioned whether Toyota will offer the Sienna with the same RAV4 Prime plug-in setup.

2022 Sienna uses the same versatile TNGA-K platform as the RAV4, plug-in options would make sense. And it will undoubtedly improve the efficiency of both models for customers with easy access to electric charging. In the RAV4 Prime, the plug-in powertrain delivers 302 hp (225 kW) and allows up to 39 miles (63 kilometers) of electric propulsion. The RAV4 Prime project, Toyota, can reach up to 90 MPGe.

Sienna Plug-in Hybrid

With Toyota exploring new ways to expand its hybrid lineup, we wonder if Toyota plans to go any further and produce plug-in hybrid variants of the new Sienna. The automaker already offers the Prius Prime plug-in and is in the process of launching the RAV4 Prime plug-in.

With its similar size and output identical to the RAV4, this makes us wonder if Toyota has a stronger version in its plans. The RAV4 Prime plug-in is the most powerful variant of the RAV4 with 302 hp on tap. It would make sense then for the Venza, a more premium compact crossover, to also get this drivetrain.

chief engineer for Sienna confirmed the minivan platform had been engineered to support a plug-in hybrid powertrain during a call with the media. While this doesn’t necessarily mean Sienna Prime is given, it does bode well for such a model finding its way into the market.

2022 Toyota Sienna Specs

As it is, Toyota expects the Sienna 2022 to deliver a combined 33 mpg, and that number could increase dramatically with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

Toyota estimates the RAV4 Prime, which will go on sale later this year, gets 90 MPGe. In addition, the PHEV crossover prediction will accelerate to 60 miles per hour in 5.8 seconds. If those numbers are correct, then prime will emerge as the fastest and most fuel-efficient RAV4 ever. (And keep in mind, the third-generation RAV4 is offered with a 268-hp V-6 and is capable of scooting up to 60 mph in the mid-six-second range.)

The Sienna Prime could serve as the answer for those looking to reassess some of the 53 newlyhibied, four-cylinder 2022 Sienna lost relative to its six-cylinder predecessor. In other words, the Sienna Prime might fill the van’s previous performance shoes, while still delivering fantastic fuel economy and plenty of interior space.

Only Toyota knows what the future holds for the Sienna, but the company’s plug-in hybrid powertrain technology certainly sounds like a great addition to the redesigned electric-gasoline minivan.

Toyota has sold 15 million hybrids worldwide – and the company shows no signs of slowing down. Toyota said the company wants a fully electrified lineup by 2025, with 25 percent of those sales being all-electric. And already the Japanese car manufacturer found success with two of its latest electrification SUVs: the RAV4 and Highlander hybrids.

Only time will tell whether Toyota changed its mind about the possibility of plug-in Sienna Prime (or even Venza Prime for that matter). Until then, buyers looking for minivans with plugs only have a Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid to choose from.

Complementing its bold exterior redesign, Sienna gets a modern and stylish interior for 2022. Instead of the open cockpit design of the current model, Toyota has created a high center console that stretches the distance from the dashboard to the center armrest, with a large storage cubby underneath.

The Upscale Limited and Platinum models have two-tone interior trim and a dashboard lined with leather stitching materials while sporty XSE models get black-and-white faux leather seats with red contrast stitching.

Unlike the Odyssey and Pacifica Hybrid, Sienna’s second-row seats are not removable; However, the optional second-row captain’s seat can slide forward-and-rear a total of 25 inches to help provide maximum legroom for rear-seat riders or to open up as much space as possible from the second row to cargo.

Limited and Platinum models can have second-row seats reclining with ottoman pop-ups. The top two trims can also be equipped with an onboard vacuum cleaner.

Sienna Features

Toyota’s latest infotainment interface is a 9.0-inch touchscreen that stands tall on the dashboard above climate control. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Amazon Alexa connectivity features are all standards, and seven USB ports decorate the van cabin. Toyota also provides SiriusXM satellite radio and onboard Wi-Fi hotspots.

The basic stereo is a 6-speaker setting, and the XLE model gets eight speakers. The JBL 12 stereo system speakers are optional on XLE and XSE as well as standard on Limited and Platinum. In-dash navigation is standard starting with XSE trim; A rear-seat entertainment system with an 11.6-inch display is optional on all but the basic LE models.

Sienna Safety

Neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has yet to conduct collision tests on Sienna 2022, but we expect the van to undergo such safety checks closer to the date of its sale.

Toyota is monitoring blind-spot and safety sense bundle 2.0 of the standard driver assistance feature on the new Sienna, while convenience items such as parking sensors and a 360-degree exterior camera system will be optional. Key security features include:

  • Standard automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection;
  • Standard line departure warning with help keeping track;
  • Standard adaptive cruise control;

2022 Toyota Sienna Release Date and Price

There is no official date yet on when the Toyota Sienna Prime 2022 will be released, but we expect it to debut by the end of 2021. and we hope the price of the 2022 sienna prime is not much different from the previous version which starts at $35,635.
