New 2022 Toyota Aygo Europe Rumors – The city car company, Aygo, is a strong seller for Japanese automakers, and one of the companies has invested serious equity, according to Matt Harrison, executive vice president of Toyota Europe, who spoke with Autocar about the future of the model.

Toyota Europe boss Johan van Zyl said Aygo would continue to be built in Kolín, Czech Republic, after being designed and engineered in Brussels, Belgium – keeping jobs in the region.

Aygo’s current generation is the sibling of the Citroen C1 and Peugeot 108, but no successor is planned for the PSA pair. Toyota will take over Kolín in 2021 by buying its partners from a joint venture, but the production of the existing trio is likely to continue for some time the following.

According to Harrison, Toyota sells 100,000 Aygos per year, and the company sees the potential of the model as others leave the segment.

Harrison told the publication Toyota saw “an opportunity to go further, not back down.” While the next generation of Aygo is still a few years away, it sounds like Toyota already has plans for a small runabout.

When the third generation of Aygo debuts, which is likely to happen until 2021 or 2022, it can forget the traditional small car body style.

Instead, it could adopt crossover-like styling cues such as raised suspension and plastic cladding to give it a more capable appearance than that. However, one area that could be a challenge for Aygo’s future is installing an electric powertrain into a bite-sized car trail.

Toyota plans to sell one million electric vehicles by 2025, though electric Aygo is unlikely to account for any of those sales. Harrison admits there has been no favorable business case for small electric cars.

Although it seems Toyota will design Aygo to offer some form of electrification in the future. Harrison added that Toyota has time for its technology and business case to mature while monitoring customer demand and needs.

While many customers around the world buy crossovers and SUVs, there are still people out there who want something compact and fuel-efficient. Not everyone needs cave cargo space and comfortable seating for seven people.
