2024 Toyota Tacoma: Will It Be Fully Electric?

2024 Toyota Tacoma: Will It Be Fully Electric?

2024 Toyota Tacoma – Toyota recently launched a concept vehicle, likely the next-generation EV. One of them is a medium-sized truck that is very similar to Tacoma.

Although the brand has not confirmed whether the model will be called the Tacoma EV or when it will be released in the United States, it could be inspiring news.

2024 Toyota Tacoma

Tacoma is currently only available as a gas-powered truck. It doesn’t have the diesel we’ve seen in competitors like the Chevy Colorado and doesn’t offer the fuel economy advantage of smaller vehicles like the Ford Maverick.

Although Toyota invested heavily in hydrogen fuel cell electric cars, it was relatively late for EVs.

While the idea of an electric pickup won’t be entirely surprising, the Tacoma EV will represent a significant departure from past Tacoma generations.

The more significant Tundra pickup will add the first hybrid variant called the i-FORCE MAX for 2022.

Toyota’s next EV pickup could come up with the so-called Beyond Zero (BZ) family of electric vehicles. Unfortunately, a time frame has not been released for the truck.

So we don’t yet know if the Tacoma EV could potentially arrive as a 2023 or 2024 vehicle. The brand said it plans to introduce at least 30 EVs globally by 2030.

Tacoma 2024 redesign rumors could show something interesting for the coming year. A preliminary report claims the next-generation Tacoma could share the same platform as the Tundra to save on development costs.

The new fourth-generation Toyota Tacoma may be the most eagerly awaited new truck to arrive in the next few years.

Many people love Tacoma—sales have always been strong, and medium-size trucks are more popular now. The quality of Tacoma’s buildings is outstanding, and the resale value remains unreasonable.

But almost everyone who loves the Tacoma wants something more out of it, whether it’s better performance to challenge rivals like the Colorado ZR2 and Jeep Gladiator Rubicon, a roomier, family-friendly cabin, or better fuel economy.

2023 Toyota Tacoma Redesign

Toyota is overhauling its truck lineup, which starts with the 2022 Tundra. Other body-on-frame offerings will also get a significant redesign, including Tacoma’s mid-size pickup.

Tacoma has sold more than American mid-size trucks like the Chevrolet Colorado and Ford Ranger, and the upgrade of the new generation will help continue its success.

The new Tacoma will be built on Toyota’s new TNGA-F body-on-frame platform, supporting the new Tundra and Sequoia and the upcoming 4Runner SUVs.

Tacoma, like the Tundra, will likely replace the rear leaf spring suspension setup with coil springs that will improve truck behavior on the road. Its closest competitors from Chevy and Ford, continue to use leaf spring settings.

For the TRD Pro model, Tacoma is expected to take design cues from the new Tundra, especially in grilles, headlights, and taillights.

It will likely still be offered in the style of a Long cabin body and a crew cabin with various bed lengths.

2023 Toyota Tacoma Powertrain

Rumors suggest the new Tacoma could use a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, and it needs to be upgraded from the optional Tacoma 3.5-liter V-6 that produces 278 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque.

The candidate is a new 2.4-liter unit that produces 275 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque in the Lexus NX350.

A hybrid version of the powertrain could also be available, as Toyota offers a hybrid version of the new Tundra. And Toyota claims to have an electrified version of every model in its lineup by 2025.

Toyota Tacoma Interior

Like the new Tundra, the Tacoma cabin will be better equipped than the current generation, with better materials.

Expect a larger touchscreen than the truck’s current 8.0-inch display (14.0-inch Tundra size), available digital gauge clusters, and Toyota’s new infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto’s standard wireless capabilities.

The new truck will debut around 2022 and go on sale towards the end, although it may also arrive after 4Runner and Sequoia for the 2024 model year.

2022 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro

The Tacoma TRD Pro with suspension lift increases height by 1.5 inches at the front and 0.5 inches at the back.

Using Fox’s TRD-tuned internal shock bypass, this rugged truck now offers a 36.4-degree and a departure angle of 24.7 degrees, while the break-over angle measures 26.6 inches.

Toyota claims these are all better settings than the 2021 Tacoma TRD Pro.

There’s more travel suspension than ever before, thanks to the TRD’s forged control arm, providing an added rebounding thud.

16-inch black alloy wheels with Goodyear all-terrain thick tires are also on the list of new items, as are the “TRD Pro” stamp on the rear panel.

Toyota has removed the TRD Pro badge on the top door for the 2022 model year, replacing it with a black “Tacoma” mounted at the bottom of the door.

The updated Tacoma TRD Pro gets exclusive Electric Lime Metallic paint and graphics that match the blackened hood.

Toyota will also sell the new truck in the theme midnight black metallic, magnetic grey metallic, or super white.

2022 Toyota Tacoma Trail Edition

Trail Edition returns as a Double Cab 4×4 with a standard rear locking differential.

With a retro-scented front grille with bronze letters, and sits on a 16-inch wheel featuring a touch of similar color.

The variant also benefits from a suspension lift (1.1-inch front, 0.5-inch rear), resulting in a 34-degree approach angle, a 23.6-degree departure angle, and a 26.4-degree break-over rise.

Lunar Rock joins the 2022 model color palette alongside Super White, Army Green, and Midnight Black Metallic.

Like the TRD Pro, the Tacoma Trail Edition can also be had with black hood and badge graphics, while the rear bumpers of both versions are given similar colors to the body.

The truck borrows undercarriage skid plates from the off-road grade TRD.

2022 Toyota Tacoma Release Date and Price

Both midsize truck variants of Tacoma will go on sale this fall.

We don’t see any significant price changes compared to the Tacoma 2021, priced at $44,325 for the TRD Pro and $37,080 for the Trail Edition 4×4, respectively.
