2023 Toyota 4Runner Hybrid
2023 Toyota 4Runner – The Toyota 4Runner is one of the toughest vehicles and has kept people and families happy for nearly four decades.
The 5th generation 4Runner has been in production since 2009. So perhaps it’s time to redesign it for 2023. Complete with a new body style. A new set of technology and security systems. And a new powertrain.
2023 Toyota 4Runner Hybrid
The 4Runner powertrain currently has a 4.0-liter V6 engine and a 5-speed automatic transmission. It produces 270 horsepower and 278 lb.-ft. Torque.
Producing the 4Runner Hybrid for the 2023 model year makes sense in some important respects. First, people will pay less money at the gas station.
Just look at what the combination of petrol-motor electric engines has done for the Highlander Hybrid 2021 – a combined 36mpg. Or the all-new Sienna Hybrid 2021 – also combined with 36mpg.
While the Toyota 4Runner Hybrid probably won’t reach that high number, perhaps it could give owners 30 miles per gallon.
Perhaps the upcoming Tundra 2022 will give us a clearer picture of what this vehicle can get for fuel forecasts.
Another benefit of the Toyota Hybrid is the increase in low-end torque. This can be beneficial at low speeds in heavier conditions and terrain.
2022 Toyota 4Runner TRD Sport
The New Toyota TRD Sport model is the biggest change for the 2022 Toyota 4Runner as the old SUV enters its next model year.
While existing TRD Off-Road and TRD Pro models emphasize off-road capabilities, the TRD Sport was designed with driving in mind on the road, according to a Toyota press release.
The new model gets a Cross-Linked Relative Absorber System (X-REAS) suspension from the 4Runner Limited level trim.
That’s a great way of saying that it has adaptive dampers and a central controller designed to minimize tone and yaw.
TRD Sport still retains off-road capabilities incorporated into the basic 4Runner platform. It is available with rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, the latter including a 2-speed transfer case.
Even the rear-wheel-drive model has a ground clearance of 9.0 inches, while the four-wheel-drive model has 9.6 inches.
Toyota 4Runner TRD Sport Exterior
TRD Sport adds colored exterior trim, 20-inch rims with Dark Grey accents, hood scoops, and black roof rails. For 2022, all 4Runner models also get LED headlights (high beam and low beam) and fog lights.
TRD Sport Interior
On the inside, the TRD Sport features faux leather upholstery with grey contrast stitching, the TRD logo on the front headrest. TRD Sport floor mat, TRD shifter, and heated front seat.
4Runner TRD Sport Engine
All 4Runner models use the same 4.0-liter V-6 engine, producing 270 hp and 278 lb-ft of torque. The machine is coupled to a 5-speed automatic transmission, and the rear-wheel-drive model gets a standard limited-slip differential. Toyota cited a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 pounds.
Release Date and Price
There is no official sales date, but Toyota’s order guidance sets for the fall 2021 release.
Pricing is also unofficial. However, without the expected change, we anticipate only a slight price increase from the current MSRP range of $37,440-$51,920.
Competitors
The 4Runner will compete with the Jeep Wrangler, Ford Bronco, and Honda Passport.
