2022 Toyota Sienna Hybrid Redesign, Price, Release Date – Toyota is taking some big risks with its New 2022 Sienna minivan. First and foremost is the bold new van style, which makes Sienna redesigned as the wildest looking car since the 2004 Nissan Quest. And second is the fact that Toyota will offer this new model exclusively with four-cylinder powertrain hybrid, breaking traditions from the previous generation of Sienna which is all powered by naturally aspirated V-6 engines.

Without knowing exactly how Toyota would price and complete the 2022 Sienna, it is hard to tell which one will represent the best value. But we eyeballing the sporty XSE model, which comes with 20-inch wheels, over-aggressive front, and rear Bumper, and sports front seats.

It’s been over a decade since the current, third-generation Toyota Sienna minivan debut, and in recent years, it grew a little stale, followed by new rivals like Chrysler Pacifica and Honda Odyssey. But Toyota on Monday officially launched a new Sienna 2022, which has been redesigned from the ground up and is a spur for the minivans segment of the crown.

2022 Toyota Sienna Hybrid Engine

Each Sienna 2022 will have a 2.5-liter gasoline engine paired with two electric motors to produce a Total of 243 horsepower. It was a drop of 53 horsepower compared to the Sienna’s 3.5-liter V-6, but the tradeoff is an estimated EPA fuel rating of up to 33 mpg economy – a significant 12-MPG fix.

Unlike the Chrysler Pacifica hybrid version, the Sienna Hybrid is not plug-in. The Sienna does not continue to offer an all-wheel-drive, as there is an optional setup that includes a third electric motor that powers the rear wheels. Despite the switch, Toyota claimed that the hybrid Sienna can tow the same £3500 as before.

Unlike the previous Toyota version of the Van family, 2022 Sienna will be offered exclusively as a hybrid. The powertrain consists of 2.5 liters of gasoline-powered four-cylinder engines and a pair of electric motors that combine to make 243 horsepower.

The All-wheel drive is available and adds a third electric motor in the back that drives the rear wheels. The main rival Sienna — Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid — is offered solely with a front-wheel drive, but the V-6 and electric motors make 260 horsepower. Toyota said Sienna was able to tow up to £3500.

Toyota described the new Sienna as “bold, sexy and provocative,” and said the large front end of the Grille was inspired by the Japanese bullet train Shinkansen. More than anything, it reminds me of the awesome, boxy, overstyled minivan JDM that we don’t get in the USA.

I don’t think Sienna looks as blatantly aggressive as the Toyota model recently, and that’s a good thing. The bulging rear Fender is lifted from the Highlander but looks more natural and gentle here, and there are a number of nice and subtle changes such as the lines emerging from the LED lights.

The back is a bit more angular, with a sleek backlight LED and a lot of folds, and the tailgate has a slight odor of the ducktail spoiler. An XSE model (one shown in red) gets a Sportier body kit, dark 20-inch wheels, and a different interior decoration.

The new Sienna has finally migrated to the General Toyota Architecture (TNGA) which underlies most other models of the company. This is a couple more inches and a little wider than its predecessor. This continues with the configuration of seven and eight seats.

The Lower-Trim model offers a stable eighth seat that slots between the two rows of Captain’s seat, and the higher Trim level has available the captain’s chair that glides further back on their tracks to accommodate the recliner style footrest. Those who use their vans for maximum cargo space should note that the second line seat is no longer removable because of the addition of a side-mounted airbag in the seat.

Fuel economy and real-world MPG
EPA hasn’t released its official fuel-economics estimate for 2022 Sienna yet, but Toyota claimed that the new Van should get a combined city/highway rating of 33 mpg, beating Pacifica Hybrid by 3 mpg. Sienna fuel economy as a whole will be much higher than non-hybrid rivals like Pacifica regular and Honda Odyssey, and we look forward to placing a new model through our 200 mile fuel-economy test.

LE familiar, XLE, and trims are limited to continue, and there are also new “sporty ” XSE models and a wide-topping Platinum Trim with all the extras. XSE gets a dark-finished 20-inch wheel and more aggressive-looking front and Rear Bumper. Among the features of the Platinum, model are head-up display, 360-degree camera display, onboard vacuum cleaner, and even refrigerated compartment.

Other standard family-oriented features for the Sienna range include 18 cupholders, four-zone climate control, seven USB ports, in-car Wi-Fi, a rear entertainment system, electric sliding doors and liftgate, and a sound amplification system to help the driver talk to the person behind.

A full complement to the driver’s assistance features is standard equipment, including adaptive cruise control, Lane-keeping AIDS, blind-spot monitoring, and automatic emergency braking.

2022 Toyota Sienna Hybrid Interior

Complementing the bold exterior design, the Sienna gets a modern and stylish interior for 2022. Instead of the open cockpit design of the current model, Toyota has created a high-center console that covers the distance from the dashboard to the center of the armrest, with a large storage Cubby underneath.

Upscale Limited and Platinum models come with wrapped leather dashboards and two-tone interior Trim while the XSE sports model gets a black-and-white armchair faux leather with contrasting red stitches. Unlike the Odyssey and Pacifica Hybrid, the second-row seat of Sienna cannot be removed;

The second captain’s seat optional line can glide forward-and-back a Total of 25 inches to help provide maximum legroom for the rear seat rider or to open up as much space as possible the second aft for the cargo. The Limited and Platinum models can have by lying a second-row seat with a pop-up Ottomans. Two top trims can also be equipped with a Vacuum Cleaner onboard.

Toyota delivers the interior of radical repairs, too. The car said the car owners did not want to feel like they were driving a bus, so the dashboard width was more similar in design to SUV brands. It’s got a high-Mount Infotainment look and a nice mix of colors and materials and looks more upscale overall.

The biggest change is the big “Bridge Console” between the front seats connected to the dashboard, which says Toyota is positioned for ergonomics and better comfort. The consoles offer cup holders, wireless phone chargers, and several additional storage compartments, while the open areas underneath are large enough to fit a bag or backpack.

But I’m most interested in the second row of seats. This new Sienna is available as a choice of Super Long Captain’s slide seat, which can glide up to 25 inches ahead and aft. This reclining seat can be equipped with a built-in Ottomans as well. Lower trims get three-in seats in the second row with a  middle seat. At the top of the chair trims covered the skin by heating and ventilation to two front occupants, while the second line can be heated.

2022 Toyota Sienna Powertrain

New Sienna rides on the TNGA-K modular Toyota platform, the same ones underlying the cars like Camry, Avalon, and Highlander. Compared to the 2020 model, the new generation is 3.1 inches longer overall and rides on the 1.2-inch-length wheelbase, and it’s a bit wider and slightly lower in height. Toyota is working to make the new Sienna calm and less affected by external vibrations, too.

For the first time, Sienna is available as a hybrid–and only as a hybrid. The only powertrain is the same basic setup found in other Toyota hybrid models such as the RAV4, using a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired with two electric motors and a battery pack installed under the front seat.

Sienna hybrid system puts 243 horsepower Total, 53 HP less than the current V6 model engine. But power is not the point: Toyota said it estimates 2022 Sienna will get 33 miles per gallon combined, a better way than 21 MPG that the 2021 Sienna gets. It’s also the Odyssey and Pacifica bests, both of which use the V6 engine and get 22 MPG combined.

Toyota said it re-dashboard, center stack, and central console-Setup to eliminate buslike driving positions that customers complained about Siennas before. A “Bridge Console ” Connects the dashboard with the center console between the front seats and offers a storage compartment underneath it. The interior material looks upscale-as it should be, given that the Top Limited and Platinum trims will tend to be over $50,000 when Fully Loaded.

Lower trims will start in the low range – $30000, and 2022 Toyota Sienna will be sold by the end of the year.

2022 Toyota Sienna Hybrid Features

Toyota’s latest Infotainment interface is the 9.0 inch touchscreen display that stands upright in the dashboard above the climate control. The connectivity features of Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa are all standard, and seven Van USB dot cab ports. Toyota provides the SiriusXM satellite radio and standard Wi-Fi hotspot onboard as well.

Basic Stereo is a 6-speaker setup; and XLE models get eight speakers. A JBL 12-speaker stereo system is optional on XLE and XSE and is standard on Limited and Platinum. Navigation in the dashboard is standard starting with Trim XSE; A rear-seat entertainment system with a 11.6-inch display is optional on all but the base LE model.

Both the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) as well as the insurance Agency for Highway Safety (IIHS) has conducted an accident test at 2021 Sienna, but we expect Van to undergo such safety checks closer to the date of the sale.

Do not give a deliberate Sienna plug, Toyota said, and there is no plan for the version of PHEV. Many owners of Sienna are repeat customers, so the new one needs to feel familiar, with no need to plug in to achieve maximum efficiency.

In addition to the standard three-year/36, 000-mile basic warranty, 2022 Sienna has a five-year/60, 000-mile powertrain warranty and an eight-year/100, 000-mile warranty for all hybrid components including batteries.

The all-wheel drive is optional at all Trim levels, with the system using a separate electric motor for the rear wheels instead of a traditional transfer case and the driveshaft (there is no word on if it adds additional horsepower).

It can send up to 80% of torque to the rear wheels, and Toyota says that the all-wheel-drive model is more agile in the corners. I wish the AWD Sienna to get the fuel economy a little worse than the FWD model, although Toyota hasn’t released the official number.
