2022 Toyota Tundra Platinum CrewMax – The Toyota Tundra 2022 is the best-in-class truck in our opinion, and is also still a compliant operator and is widely capable when taken off the track. It has also been on sale for a very long time without a full redesign, meaning its makers have had more than enough time to shake up any problems.

The ride is rough, and the bump causes the body to sparkle and sways in a way that its competitors no longer do. Unfortunately, fuel economy is much worse than those of competitors. The quality of the interior and atmosphere is nothing special. The content is a little behind the times and noisy.

For 2022, new Tundra Trail models are starting to add badging and black wheels, a 1794 edition chrome grille, and an all-weather floor mat for what is declared an SR5 Crew Max with SR5 Upgrade package.

How do you get the popular Army Green colors that have now been removed from the TRD Pro color palette? In its place is a new greenish-gray Lunar Rock.

Since regular Tundra trim levels are not competitive in this segment, the special trim levels of TRD Off-Road and TRD Pro are the most attractive. They come with Toyota’s distinctive style and long-held reputation for building bulletproof off-road vehicles.

Toyota Tundra Platinum Specs

The 5.7-liter V8 Tundra produces 381 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. The maximum towing capacity is 10,200 pounds.

With a combined 15 or 14 mpg depending on whether you get rear-drive or four wheels, respectively. V8-powered competitors are much better, but they also offer small-capacity turbocharged engines, turbodiesel, or even light hybrid powertrains that fuel the economy.

For 2022, Toyota supplies the Tundra range with a new appearance package called Nightshade. It is only available in Limited and includes 20-inch black rims, black exterior accents, and black leather upholstery.

The new Trail Special Edition, of which only 5000 will be made, is based on the SR5 crew cabin (called CrewMax) and comes with all-weather floor mats, black exterior badging, and black upholstery with brown contrast stitching.

The Trail Special Edition also features the same body-color grille as the top Tundra 1794 Edition, a lockable storage unit in a cargo bed, and unique 18-inch wheels equipped with all-terrain tires.

Even the most fantastic Tundra can’t match the luxury of the mid-level Ram 1500 model. However, Toyota’s biggest virtue is its off-road capability, which is fully embodied in the TRD Pro variant.

Although this model has the most capable suspension and a more different appearance, it is not enough to guarantee investment in the Ford F-150 Raptor.

Instead, we’ll choose the SR5 Tundra with an optional four-wheel-drive system. As the crew’s cabin body style is only paired with the shortest 5.5-foot cargo bed, we will stick with the extended cab and the standard 6.1-foot box.

Our example will also be equipped with a Basic Off-Road TRD package to improve the ability of trucks to play on the ground, mud, or sand.

The enhanced off-road cuts come from trace-tuned dampers, enhanced underbody protection, front tow hooks, and 18-inch wheels.

In addition to those mechanical upgrades, the kit adds a larger 8.0-inch touchscreen. It also carries a larger fuel tank for a longer driving range and replaces the standard front bench seat with a pair of buckets and a center console.

The inside of the Tundra is decorated and spacious with fantastic features, but this is really an outdated demonstration, and the substances in many models feel cheap and rubbery.

While rear-seat legroom is most effective for crew huts, the high quality and design of the Tundra cabin are inconspicuous, other than the absence of amenities found in fresher contests.

The only salvation is the 1794 Edition, with its delicious saddle-brown leather seats and ultra-suede accents.

The front roof pillars of the tundra are wide at the base and create a fairly large blind spot, but the rear windows of the crew cabin do offer adequate visibility.

The quantity of storage and cargo space is anticipated along with pick up. While Toyota was only adequate in many areas, our tests showed that the cave crew cabin managed to maintain 21 carry-on suitcases with folded rear seats, two more than any other pickup.

A deep but narrow door pocket prevents greater storage of luggage. Still, the extended cabin – called the Dual Cab – has a storage compartment under the back seat that is not available in different cottages. The Tundra has three cargo beds. The shortest is 5.5 feet and is only available by crew taxi.

The Tundra infotainment system is tolerable, works satisfactorily and responsively but is never intuitive. The more attractive trim level has an advanced package that provides more speakers into an integrated audio and navigation system.

Entune’s system won’t please users with switches on its small screen, but our tests show that response times are faster than smartphones. Fortunately, the newly available Apple CarPlay and Android Auto make the system more intuitive and contemporary.

when likened to a newer, more complex powertrain, prehistoric Tundra engines, and transmissions. Rear-wheel drive is standard, and also, four-wheel drive is optional for both settings, but not for many cabin and bed configurations.

The Tundra engine is a bit peppy but emits a very weak exhaust record, and the six-speed automatic change is a bit slow. While not terrible to drive, our previous Tundra analyzed feeling conservative and slightly off the pace compared to lighter and stronger opponents.

Due to the Tundra’s firm suspension, any bumps are transmitted to the cabin, making the ride bumpy when driving over rough surfaces. In addition, increased shocks on TRD Pros and models with Off-Road TRD packages marginally increase travel caliber and help better manage body movement in corners.

Tundra lights, numbness steer the driver off the road and require constant correction in highway speed. The Tundra brakes are decent and will bring the truck down from 70 mph in 190 feet, but the brake pedal generates little feedback and has an inconsistent ride.

Tundra Platinum Towing Capacity

The Tundra’s highest crane rating of 10,200 will probably be more than men and women need, and even its least capable configuration can attract at least 8800 lbs.

Fuel Economy

The Tundra is the worst fuel economy in its class. While its competitors also don’t actually sip gas, the government accelerates the V-8 with a four-wheel drive in the city of 13 mpg and the highway at 17 mpg.

The last one we tested matched his highway ranking on our 200-mile real-world track, but that figure is still lower than all the other pickups we’ve tested.
